Vom 6.-8. November, in sechs Lang -und drei Kurzfilmen begleiten wir Menschen, die mitten im Lebenswandel sind. Sie begegnen vielfältigen Herausforderungen und Wandlungen in der chinesischen Gesellschaft – auf dem Land wie in der Stadt, auf dem Arbeitsmarkt, bei der Partnersuche, auf dem Weg zur Selbstfindung, beim Träumen. Wir sehen zu, wie sich eine Frau aus einer gewaltvollen Ehe befreit. Eine andere blickt auf ihre Vergangenheit als erfolgreiche Tänzerin in den USA zurück. Und ein kleiner Junge sieht seine beste Freundin wegziehen, in die Großstadt. So spiegelt sich im Festival die Vielseitigkeit des Lebenswandels in China und in der chinesischen Diaspora wider – ganz im Zeichen des Mottos 蜕变: der Prozess des Sich-Entpuppens und der persönlichen Entfaltung.

Auch das CHAI-Filmfestival hat Veränderung aufgenommen: Dieses Jahr findet es im Herbst in der neuen Spielstätte der Cinémathèque Leipzig in der Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 109 statt. Wir freuen uns sehr, euch bald zu empfangen und mit euch und den Filmschaffenden zu diskutieren.

Change is in the air.

From November 6th to November 8th, in six feature-length and three short films, we follow individuals navigating pivotal moments in their lives. Against the backdrop of contemporary Chinese society — whether in bustling cities or tranquil rural areas—they confront a spectrum of challenges: in the workplace, in love, in the pursuit of self-discovery, and in the chase for their dreams.

We witness a woman breaking free from a violent marriage. We reflect with another on her past as a successful dancer in the United States. And through the eyes of a young boy, we feel the bittersweet ache of a best friend moving to the big city.

These stories together form a vibrant tapestry, capturing the diversity of life’s transformations in China and the global Chinese diaspora, perfectly resonating with this year’s theme, 蜕变: the process of emergence, growth, and becoming.

The CHAI Film Festival itself is embracing change: this year, it moves to the new Cinémathèque Leipzig at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 109 and will take place in autumn. We eagerly await your presence, to share in these films and to engage in conversation with the filmmakers themselves.

今年十一月六号到八号，在本届影展的六部长片与三部短片中，我们将走进一群正处在人生转折点的人们。他们或在乡村，或在城市；或面对就业的压力，或在寻找伴侣、追寻梦想、探寻自我的路上。每一个故事，都是当下中国社会与侨民群体正在经历的真实缩影。

我们见证一位女性勇敢挣脱暴力婚姻的枷锁，重获新生；聆听一位舞者回望自己在美国舞台上的辉煌与遗憾；陪伴一个小男孩在好友离乡赴城的背影中体会成长的孤独。

这些影片如同一面多棱镜，折射出当代中国人与华人世界的多样人生与深刻转变。正如本届主题 “蜕变” 所寓意的那样：蜕去旧壳，迎来新生，变化中孕育无限可能。

CHAI电影节和我们的长期合作伙伴--莱比锡电影资料馆 Cinémathèque 在进行翻新工程。今年的电影节将改在秋季举行，地点在莱比锡 Karl-Liebknecht 大街 109 号的莱比锡电影馆Cinémathèque。
