Shibati ist das letzte traditionelle Viertel der Millionenmetropole Chongqing. Bald soll es einem Hochhausviertel weichen. Der französische Filmemacher Hendrick Dusollier stellt uns zwei Bewohner des Viertels vor: Zhou Hong, ein aufgeweckter Junge, und Xue Lian, eine alte Dame. Sie zeigen uns ihr bisheriges Leben und erzählen uns von ihren Träumen für die Zeit nach dem Abriss.

They show us their current life and tell us about their dreams for the future.

22 Frauen, 22 Leben und ein Schicksal, das sie verbindet: sie sind die letzten noch lebenden Frauen, die während des zweiten Weltkriegs in die Prostitution gezwungen wurden. Ke Guo widmet den Zeitzeuginnen ein Portrait und greift mit poetischen Bildern unterlegt Themen wie Schmerz und Hass, aber auch Liebe und Hoffnung auf.

22 women, 22 lifes and a fate that they share: they are the last surviving Comfort Women, women that have been forced into prostitution during the Second World War. In his portrait of these brave women Ke Guo touches on topics such as pain and hatred, but also love and hope. He combines skillfull montage with poetic imagery.

Lao Yang lives in Ordos, a bleak industrial city in Inner Mongolia. He spends the money of his family on affairs and playing Mahjong. All the while his wife is seriously ill and waiting for an expensive operation, for which the money was meant.

Zhao Xiaoyong verdient seinen Lebensunterhalt damit, Gemälde von van Gogh zu kopieren. Zusammen mit seiner Familie hat er bereits 10.000 Kopien unters Volk gebracht. Sein größter Traum ist es, die Originale in Amsterdam zu sehen. Zusammen mit dem Regisseur Yu Haibo macht er sich auf den Weg.

Von Freunden und Verwandten verlassen läuft sie Gefahr auf der Straße zu landen. Doch das Blatt wendet sich, als das Gerücht die Runde macht, Er Hou sei eine Hexe.
